The recommended serving size for our Ceremonial Cacao for Daily Ritual is about 20-28 grams for healthy individuals. (See precautions with medications and suggestions for pregnant women and children below)
6-9 small pieces of our Ceremonial Cacao is the recommended serving size. You can always use a scale if you want to be precise but definitely not necessary! Our 1lb bags will give you about 22 Daily Ritual Servings.
As always, we invite you to tune in with your body to determine the amount right for you.
Ceremonial doses are more concentrated and can be up to 40 grams. It is not recommend to drink more than 45 grams in a sitting. In high amounts, cacao can cause headaches, nausea, stomach upset and heart palpitations.
We find a little goes a long way! You can even start with a micro-dose of 5-10 grams to see how your body experiences it and then increase as needed.

To honor Cacao as a sacred medicine, you may want to set a sacred space to prepare your brew.
You could do something intentional to shift the vibe like lighting a candle, burning some incense or smudging. You can also add beauty into your space, play music that helps you relax and take some deep breaths before connecting to an intention.
Invite mindfulness and gratitude into the practice of making Ceremonial Cacao. Allow yourself to be open and guided into the art and craft of preparing medicine.
Some people like to sing, pray and infuse their intentions into the Cacao while making it. Trust your intuition and know that there is no wrong way to prepare it! Let your heart guide you.
Choose a dose that you’d like to work with (see more info on serving sizes).

Ceremonial Cacao is health-restoring and nourishing for the physical body and mind. Cacao has the highest amount of antioxidants per serving than any other food! It is loaded with essential minerals like Magnesium and Iron, vitamins like C, E and B and Omega-6 fatty acids. It increases the potency and benefits of other superfoods, herbs and medicinal mushrooms.
Cacao opens up detoxification pathways and increases circulation especially to the brain and heart which increases energy, cognitive function, focus and awareness. Cacao contains compounds and natural chemicals that triggers dopamine release, increases serotonin (happiness hormone) and enhances mood, making it a great natural source to combat depression, PMS and fatigue. It contains Anandamide (the bliss molecule) Aphenylethylamine -PEA (the love molecule) and Oxytocin (bonding hormone) that bring feelings of joy, happiness, love, bliss and euphoria.

Every plant has a spirit, energy and consciousness that can be communed with to help us on our spiritual journey.
The Plant Spirit of Cacao can help us restore a harmonious connection to Nature. As a heart-opening medicine, Cacao can help liberate us from fear, limitations, blockages and patterns that hold us back from living in alignment with our true nature.
Because Cacao connects so deeply with our hearts, it can help with the processing and release of emotions and feel more love, compassion and forgiveness for ourselves and others. Cacao connects us to our intuition to access spiritual guidance, increases creativity, awareness and higher states of consciousness.

Connecting with Plant Spirit is unique to everyone.
Mostly, it is about establishing an intuitive sensing connection. You can have a relationship with a plant that can be nurtured and built upon just as it is like having a friend, teacher or ally.
Like any new person you meet, you can start simply by introducing yourself, sharing gratitude and your intention of why you’re wanting to connect to the Spirit of Cacao.
Just like having a new friend, to build a relationship with Cacao, you may want to sit, play or commune with them often to get to know them.
Having a daily ritual with drinking Cacao and sitting in meditation, sharing breath, energy and prayers with them is one way to deepen your relationship and open up to their Spirit guidance.

Cacao has a rich history of ritual and medicinal use in South and Central America. In the days of the Maya, Cacao was reserved only for the elite. When Cacao was de-fatted and made into large-scale cheap chocolate in the 1800’s, it ended the times of it’s sacred and medicinal use.
Cacao Ceremony is a way of rediscovering Cacao’s ancient roots and honoring it again as sacred medicine. At the same time, exploring new ways to connect with Cacao as a Plant Spirit, beyond experiencing it just as sugary chocolate, as most of us have previously known.
Cacao Ceremonies typically involve setting intention, prayer, song, gratitude and mindfully drinking the Cacao.
A Cacao Ceremony usually centers around the heart-opening and blissful feelings one feels while drinking Cacao. For this reason, other spiritual practices, rituals, yoga, meditation, breathwork, sound baths, dance etc. can be enhanced with Cacao and are commonly included in Ceremonies we participate in today.

Through traditional ways of production that originated in Mayan and Olmec cultures, the cacao beans are fermented in small batches, slightly toasted, hand-peeled and ground in a warm stone mill.
Through this process, Ceremonial-grade cacao paste retains its high amount of beneficial nutrients and healthy fat content (which makes up 50% of the bean) and is the best carrier for our bodies to receive its nutrients.

No. Cacao is not psychedelic but it is psychoactive meaning it affects the mind and can alter your state of consciousness.
You will not hallucinate on Cacao! Ceremonial doses can make you feel “high” but not in the way psilocybin or cannabis does. It can make you feel energized, warm and euphoric but fully functional at work, driving, being around other people etc. It actually increases focus and openness, and lessens social anxiety.
It is a stimulant and can make you feel “buzzed” and alert like drinking coffee but without the crash and side effects of caffeine.
-
Cacao is completely safe to drink daily in smaller doses although it not necessary to drink Cacao every day to enjoy it’s benefits. As with any medicine, we suggest listening to your body, drinking mindfully and taking breaks periodically when your body calls for it.
Ceremonial doses are better to have on occasion. A lot of Cacao or a lot too often, can be hard for the body to process.
-
The amount of caffeine varies in different strains of Cacao but typically has very little to no caffeine.
Due to the compound Theobromine, Cacao is a natural energy enhancer and stimulater like caffeine but doesn’t have the same effect on your body. The onset from Theobromine is slower, gentler, milder, long-lasting, more relaxed and non-addictive compared to coffee. No spike and no crash which makes Cacao a great swap to coffee for those who are seeking a substitute.
-
It depends on the individual and the dosage. Generally smaller dosages a couple hours before bed won’t keep you up at night . Because of the magnesium content, some find it to be relaxing before bed especially when combined with other calming herbs or mushrooms like Reishi. Ceremonial dosages however can be more stimulating and could disrupt sleep.
-
Generally Cacao is safe to drink if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Stick with small amounts and see how you feel.
-
If you’re currently taking medications like SSRI anti-depressants, hypertension or low blood pressure medications, undergoing chemotherapy treatment or have a serious heart condition, stick with micro-dosages (5-10g) or daily ritual dose (15-25g). Strong Ceremonial dosages should be avoided as the tryptophan and MAO inhibitors may interfere with medication and could cause adverse reactions. Consult with your doctor for concerns.
-
Children can be very sensitive to Cacao but it is safe for them to drink in small amounts. A micro-dose of 5g or less is a good place to start and see how they do with it.
-
Leftover prepared Cacao can be kept in the fridge in an airtight container and is best consumed within 24 hours. Ceremonial Cacao can be reheated on a low heat being mindful not to boil.

If stored in a dark, cool, dry place it will keep well for 6 months to 1 year. It won’t go bad or be harmful to ingest after that, as long as it doesn’t smell bad & spoil, it just might loose it’s some of its potency and taste.
